PCProfile Discovery Audit Data Collected
Data collected for every executable file located on the system will contain the following information (where it is capable of being detected); Directory, Size, Filename, Attributes, Description, Version, Internal Name, Company Name, Copyright, Original Filename, Product Name.
In addition, details are included from the Registry area covering applications installed and the location of the uninstall string. NOTE: Relying solely on any audit tool that uses only the Registry Uninstall area is risky as the data in the Registry Uninstall (and Install) is not entirely accurate as many software vendors fail to record their data correctly in the Registry in Windows based systems.
File counts and byte sizes of the following file types can also be captured so that you can get a feel for unusual activity on your systems; EXE, OCX, COM, DLL, MPG, WAV, MP3, AVI, MOV, SCR, JPG, GIF, Fonts Key hardware information also reported.

PCProfile Discovery Audit is a 1st pass discovery tool that examines all exe files and reports on the information delivering 4 reports, hardware, software and registry data with a txt file as confirmation of location of all exe files.
The 4 key audit reports are in CSV format to allow you to upload to your own database after PCProfile Discovery Audit has completed.
PCProfile Discovery Audit does NOT need installation or user manual to operate. PCProfile Discovery Audit can be run in GUI mode from the desktop by clicking on the icon. It works on Vista (as administrator) and works on XP, NT and Win2000 32 bit systems. It is small, and fast, by design.
PCProfile Discovery Audit will take less than 60 seconds (depending on other processes running) to gather all the data. At the end of the audit there is a confirmation dialogue that advises the results are saved to c:\AuditReports . It also runs from USB and via networks.
No software identification database is used. If we can’t detect the detail we populate the record detail with “no data” as a comment. This isn’t a failing of our approach, it’s just that the software industry programmers who develop software (including Microsoft) don’t follow their own rules and don’t populate the data needed to identify all the files. We do NOT rely on the Registry as that is unreliable and an incomplete picture of what is on a system although we do add that detail as separate file.
